Mission
We create opportunities for Bharatanatyam dancers to discover their unique style by working on a varnam and its presentation
Vision
Varnam is often the “main” piece in a solo Bharatanatyam performance. It is a long, endurance piece that requires depth of understanding of the chosen narrative and of the dancing body. This is a space to explore a new connection to the timeless art, share its process with the audience and find pleasure
Why Varnam?
Varnam or Swarajathi is being missed on the stage
A traditional Bharatanatyam concert is incomplete without a varnam
Varnam is a long, endurance piece that requires depth of understanding of the chosen narrative and of the dancing body
We want to encourage dancers to spend time creating and perfecting a piece and to perform it in an intimate performance space
In this program, varnam is centre-stage and given the attention it deserves
Who is it for?
Active dancers who are choreographing, creating and working on their dance practice in Germany
Audience and art lovers who are always curious about new art genres
